Only after thoroughly pursuing the idea of "nothing else matters except for myself," can we finally realize that there is something beyond ourselves. Giving to others is only possible when we have something left over. By ignoring everything else and continuing to focus on ourselves, we can create something that we can give to others, and only then can we engage in "continuous giving" to others.
If we haven't thoroughly pursued the idea of ourselves, we will end up seeking "rewards" for giving to others. Unless what we give is something that we have left over, the act of giving becomes terribly calculating and no different from a "business transaction."
